From Prototype to Scrapyard

Cruising along the Malecon, our hand painted "Taxi" sign obscures the Hotel Habana Riviera. The hotel was the epitome of luxury when its well funded consortium of Las Vegas movers and shakers (allegedly the Mafia) arrived in 1957, however over 50 years later I'd try the Parc Central if you want a room...

Imagine if your company car was a 1955 Desoto Firedome! Chrysler sold 114,765 in various configurations in 1955, I would be fairly certain this is the only one in daily use as a taxi - operated by the Cuban state run "Grandcar".

Your not wrong: This is a 4 door saloon with the roof cut off. Two or three times I caught it parked with the bonnet up, but part of me likes to think if you parked on un-even ground you would have to open something else so dimishing the torsional strain on the doors themselves. I suppose you could try the "General Lee" entry method...

Varadero rush hour is hell.

Car 54 where are you? A beautifull enviroment to stare upon, with fine deco details and beautifully crafted chrome switches that two million miles later still work. The fine chromed steering wheel is not lumbered with a ghastly airbag. Of course should you crash it will pierce most of your internal organs in one go, not that you would care (because of the pain from having your face impaled on those wonderfull wireless station preset buttons).

Those are not tractor tyres*

Its a brave man that takes bets on which taxi is the fastest. Or produces more harmfull gases.
